Eligibility for flu and Covid vaccination - Autumn 2024

People eligible to receive both vaccinations this autumn include:

  • those aged 65 years and over
  • 5 years to under 65 years in certain clinical risk groups
  • pregnant women
  • people living in a care home
  • carers in receipt of carer’s allowance, or those who are the main carer of an elderly or disabled person
  • close contacts of immunocompromised individuals

We are sending out invitations that offer you a choice. You can book either for both Covid and flu at the same time, or flu only. We have begun to invite patients by text, allowing you to book directly into a clinic yourself. We will also call some patients to invite them. Please wait for your invitation before contacting the practice as we are unable to send out all invitations at the same time.

Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV)

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a common cause of coughs and colds. It usually gets better by itself, but it can be serious for some babies and older adults.

Eligibility for RSV vaccination, autumn 2024

A vaccine to help protect against RSV is being offered by the NHS this autumn to two groups of people:

75-79 year olds

If you are turning 75 years old between 1 August 2024 and 31 July 2025, you are eligible for the RSV vaccine. This includes if your 75th birthday is on 1 August 2024 or 31 July 2025. The vaccine will also be offered to anyone who is aged 75 to 79 years on 1 August 2024.

This means you can get the vaccine if your date of birth is between 2 August 1944 and 31 July 1950. In future years, the vaccine will be routinely offered to those turning 75 years old between 1 August and 31 July.

For more information about the RSV vaccination for 75-79 year olds please visit the GOV UK website here.

Otherwise you can pick up a leaflet from Reception.

Women who are 28 weeks pregnant or more

RSV vaccination at this stage of pregnancy helps protect your baby for the first few months of life. We will send invitations by text to expectant mothers, so please wait to be invited before contacting us to book an appointment.

For more information about the RSV vaccination in pregnancy, please visit the GOV UK website here.

RSV vaccination clinics are separate from flu clinics. This is because clinical advice is to avoid giving at the same time as other vaccines as it may make it less effective, so we are unable to offer RSV with any other vaccines.

Please make sure your contact details are up to date, including phone number and email address. You can do this in the NHS App or Patient Access, via our website, or by contacting Reception.
